Orlando Magic hire Ameer Bahhur as head video coordinator
In a matter of three years, Ameer Bahhur went from being “damn near a volunteer” coach at a junior college in Las Vegas to getting hired by the Orlando Magic as their head video coordinator.
Bahhur credits landing his new job to the year he spent working as the video coordinator for fellow Palestinian American Mahmoud Abdelfattah’s coaching staff and their subsequent NBA G League title run with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers–the Houston Rockets affiliate. The Vipers’ unique style of play and success caught the attention of Bahhur and Abdelfattah’s peers in the NBA. Abdelfattah, who won coach of the year last season was recently promoted to the Houston Rockets’ coaching staff.
“[Abdelfattah] has been absolutely instrumental for my career and I think he’s probably the reason I have this job,” Bahhur said during the episode.
Three months after being hired by the Magic and a little more than a week following his first NBA Summer League, Bahhur joined Palestine in America’s podcast to discuss his journey to the NBA, his working relationship with Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley, and whether he prefers Maklouba or Mensef.
